Fall Institute – A Global Perspective: Civic Education & Democracy in Action

This annual Institute focuses on practical ways to integrate the themes of peace and social justice, human rights, environmental sustainability, and international development into educational curricula and practice. The Institute offers workshops, documentary screenings and plenary sessions for educators at all levels. Main sessions are bilingual and workshops are offered in English. Who is afraid of teacher activists?: A step in front of our children. Nicholas Ng-A-Fook reexamines what is at stake for teachers who are committed to a social justice curriculum within and outside the contexts of public schooling. As one example, he will discuss our obligations as teachers to remember the lived experiences of survivors who suffered the violent colonial effects of residential schooling and its absence from the Ontario school curriculum. Educating for Global Citizenship: Conversations, Pedagogy & Curriculum

Fall Institute 2012/2013 – September 21 & 22, 2012

The Institute focuses on such themes as basic education, HIV/AIDS, anti-racist education, gender equity, human rights, democracy and good governance. The Institute offers workshops, lectures and plenary sessions featuring practical ideas and diverse applications for educators at all levels. Main sessions are bilingual and workshops in English and French are offered. Many NGOs also offer materials in both languages.
